YouTube announces nominees for the first-ever Youtube Music Awards

YouTube has announced the nominees for its first-ever music awards show, presenting voters with a mix of artists – around 30 in all – from across the fame spectrum.

The event takes place at Manhattan’s Pier 36 on November 3, with YouTube hoping to boost traffic to its site in the intervening days by encouraging fans to visit the show’s microsite to vote for their top acts across six categories.

The event will be hosted by funnymen Jason Schwartzman and Reggie Watts and streamed lived to a worldwide audience is bound to ignite a few trending topics. With YouTube promising a real award show celebrating music, we’re sure there will be plenty of OMG moments.

#DisturbingSA: Praiz performs, thrills fans in Johannesburg

Last week, R&B/Soul singer Praiz visited the busy city of Johannesburg following up on his music endeavours and meeting up with his fans.

The X3M Music act was also invited to the prestigious Cocoon Lounge where he hung out with more fans treating them to a few performances.

The ‘Rich & Famous’ crooner made a few interview rounds, the most prominent being the ‘Thursday Night Live with Marawa’ with Robert Marawa on Supersports where he rendered the Nigerian National Anthem.

Carniriv 2013 Green World Edition is Almost here! #CarniRiv2013

Carniriv 2013 tagged the Green World Edition was officially flagged off on the 24th of September, 2013 at a World Media Conference held at the Banquet Hall of Hotel Presidential, Port Harcourt. 

The unveiling saw a colourful display of the Rivers cultural heritage and performances that included the Carnival Theme song. The event had in attendance top Nigerian celebrities and representatives from the NottingHill Carnival, London. Julius Agwu and Basorge Tariah Junior held the audience to a glare of laughter with rich Nigerian Jokes and the landmark of the event was the official unveiling of the Carnival 2013 Logo. 

The Director General of Rivers State Tourism Development Agency, Dr. Sam Dede emphasized on the several newbies that would be introduced in this year's carnival which include citing of viewing centres across the city and live web stream of the carnival among others.

GTA V smashes several Guinness World Records

Grand Theft Auto V's success over the past month has been huge, but according to Guinness, it's also been ground-breaking.

Guinness on Tuesday announced that Grand Theft Auto V has set six world records since its launch, adding to its previous title of "most viewed trailer." The game, which launched last month, has become the best-selling action-adventure game of all time, the best-selling video game, and the fastest entertainment property to ever net $1 billion. The game also has reached the heights on revenue generated in a 24-hour period.

Samsung Galaxy Round: The First Curved Smartphone

Samsung announced today its Galaxy Round, the world's first smartphone with a curved display. The phone uses Samsung's flexible screen technology, but the phone itself doesn't actually flex or bend. Instead the 5.7-inch Super AMOLED screen has a slight curve, or smile, to it, which Samsung says offers a "comfortable hand-grip feeling."

The curved display doesn't just offer aesthetic and comfort improvements, Samsung says. With the Roll Effect, users can tilt or roll the device on a table to check missed calls, remaining battery life and more. Additionally, Samsung has built in "one-hand operation features," which bring some settings or controls to the sides of the screen.

But before you get too excited about holding the curved screen in your hand, the Round will be available only in Korea for now, and according to The Wall Street Journal, it will cost a whopping 1,089,000 won, or $1,013. It will launch there in a "Luxury Brown" color this month.

Given the price tag and the limited launch, Samsung seems to be experimenting with the curved display technology as competitors such as LG also gear up to mass produce flexible displays and batteries for smartphones. That ultimately means your phone is going to stay flat for a while longer.

Tattooed Jesus billboard angers Christian faithful worldwide.

A billboard featuring a depiction of Jesus Christ with tattoos and the website jesustattoo.org has ignited a debate in around the world over the limits of decency and religious icons.

The billboard advertises the site JesusTattoo.org, a site that features a video of Jesus removing tattooed words off customers’ bodies.

The words removed include “useless,” “addicted” and “outcast.” The Jesus then adds new words like “freedom,” “brave” and “accepted.”

The website’s creators say the site is meant to share the “life-changing gift of peace and acceptance if you choose to build your relationship with Jesus.”

The theme of the video is the usual Boy meets Girl concept, but with an exceptional twist, the director explains the train of thought of the singer before, during and after performing at a concert where the girl of his dream is present.
