American Music Awards 2013: Full Winners List + Photos

Taylor Swift, Justin Timberlake, One Direction and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis were the biggest winners at Sunday's American Music Awards at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles. Macklemore & Ryan Lewis led this year's nominees with six nods. Taylor Swift and Justin Timberlake followed with five nominations each, while Florida Georgia Line, Rihanna and Robin Thicke collected four nominations. Additionally, Bruno Mars and Imagine Dragons were nominated for three awards.

Swift won the night's biggest honor, artist of the year, and in her acceptance speech she referenced her award-winning year and defended a frequent criticism of her breakup-focused songs.

"My lucky number is 13, and so far, you guys have made 2013 the best year of my life," she said.  

Rihanna's mum presented her daughter the icon award. Monica Fenty couldn't have been prouder taking to the stage to give her daughter Rihanna the first-ever Icon Award.
"Rihanna, I'm so proud of you tonight," Fenty said. "I know the journey in your career has not always been an easy one, but tonight I applaud and admire you."
The singer, who performed her hit "Diamonds," seemed awed that she was receiving such an accolade so early in her career.
"My fans, I love you so much; you have no idea," Rihanna said. "I can't believe at 25, I am holding an Icon Award!"

The American Music Awards, (AMA) is an annual American music awards show, created by Dick Clark in 1973 for ABC when the network's contract to present the Grammy Awards expired. Unlike the Grammys, which are awarded on the basis of votes by members of the Recording Academy, the AMAs are determined by a poll of the public and music buyers.
