40 Soldiers Killed, 65 Missing In Fresh Boko Haram Ambush at Baga

Unconfirmed report says at least 40 Nigerian soldiers were killed and 65 others are missing in an attack carried out by suspected members of the extremist group, Boko Haram in Borno state.

The attack occurred less than two months after 20 soldiers were killed by militants in the same area.

Defence sources say at least 40 soldiers were killed and 65 others missing in a deadly ambush by the suspected members of Boko Haram.

The casualty, one of the heaviest for the military in its campaign against the militant group in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states, occurred along the Baga –Maiduguri road on Friday, September 13, in what our sources said was a classic case operational and communication failure.

Army authorities are miffed by the incident, and have ordered an investigation into the suspected operation blunder that gave the militants such an upper hand. The commanding officer of the unit that carried out the operation has now been removed from his post, officials say.

The incident occurred along the Baga, Maiduguri road on Friday, September 13, in what can be described as a classic case of operational and communication failure.

MEND ambush police boat in Nigeria oil region

Nigerian militants have ambushed a police boat in the oil-producing Niger Delta region, leaving 12 officers missing and presumed dead, security officials said on Sunday.
The ambush came days after the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND), the main delta militant group prior to a 2009 amnesty, threatened to restart attacks in retaliation for the jailing of leader Henry Okah by a South African court.

Police Commissioner Kingsley Omire said the ambush was carried out by militants once loyal to Kile Selky Torughedi, who headed MEND's southern wing, but denied there was a link to the threat by the group, whose attacks cut oil production in Nigeria by around half before the amnesty.
