CBN Governor Sanusi Accuses Pastor Adeboye Of Aiding Corrupt Rogue Banker Akingbola To Evade Justice

The governor of Nigeria’s Central Bank, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, has accused the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, of playing a role in shielding Erasmus Akingbola, the corrupt former Chief Executive Officer of InterContinental Bank PLC, from serious prosecution.

Nigerian authorities asserted that the rogue former banking executive siphoned over N200 billion from the commercial bank he ran. Officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission also accused Mr. Akingbola of using his loot to buy swanky properties in Europe and other parts of the world. The former InterContinental Bank chief also reportedly manipulated his bank’s stocks in insider trading deals.

Tension in Port Harcourt as Sen. Magnus Abe is flown abroad after police shoot-out

The tense political crisis Rivers State boiled over today as Senator Magnus Abe, the Senator representing Rivers South East zone and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Petroleum (Downstream) was shot twice in the chest and leg with a rubber bullet by some men of the River State Police command, which knocked him off his feet and has rendered him speechless and in severe shock. 

The party also reported the killing of five youngsters by the police at the rally of the party at the College of Arts and Science in Port Harcourt, along with the arrest of Ike Chinwo, a member of the Federal House of Representatives representing Obio-Akpor Federal Constituency.

Pope Francis selects first batch of cardinals

Pope Francis named his first batch of cardinals on Sunday, choosing 19 men from Asia, Africa, Latin America and elsewhere, including the developing nations of Haiti and Burkina Faso, in line with his belief that the church must pay more attention to the poor.

Francis made the announcement as he spoke from his studio window to a crowd in St. Peter's Square.

Sixteen of the appointees are younger than 80, meaning they are currently eligible to elect the next pope, which is a cardinal's most important task. The ceremony to formally install them as cardinals will be held Feb. 22 at the Vatican.

Two undergrad sisters burnt to death in Agbor

File: Fire Razes Katsina Governor's Office

TWO female undergraduate siblings have been burnt to death following a midnight inferno that razed their hostel in Agbor, Delta State, Tuesday.

The two girls were students of College of Education, Agbor and were among those living in a private hostel adjacent the college.
Their names were given as Favour and Ndidi from Obiaruku in Ukwuani Local Government Area of the state.

According to an eyewitness, “the unfortunate incident occurred while they were sleeping in the hostel. The fire started at about midnight unknown to neighbours that the two girls were in their rooms.”

The cause of the fire was not immediately ascertained but Vanguard gathered that men of the state fire service were called in for rescue operation after the havoc had been done. The two corpses were deposited at the Central Hospital, Agbor.

State Commissioner, Bureau for Special Duties, Dr. Tony Nwaka, had while delivering his mid-term report last year said 90 lives and property worth over N7 billion were lost to fire in the last six years.
He said over N65 billion property were salvaged.

Actor Steven Seagal to Run for Governor of Arizona

Action-movie star Steven Seagal says he is considering a run for Arizona governor.

The "Marked for Death" actor told  that he is considering a shot at the state's highest office and has had a talk about the bid with the self-proclaimed toughest sheriff in America.

The 61-year-old made the comments while talking about his newly released reality series "Steven Seagal - Lawman: Maricopa County."

Seagal teamed up with Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio for the show that was shot in Arizona and airs on cable TV's Reelz Channel.

The martial arts expert is a member of Arpaio's posse, made up of 3,000 unpaid civilians. He also has been deputized with sheriff's offices in New Mexico, Texas and Louisiana and says he wants to increase border security.
