Nigerian, Gunseye Adekunle Dies At JFK Airport In New York

A Nigerian by the name Gunseye Adekunle died from a heart attack at JFK last Saturday after paramedics were delayed by inoperative security badges at the newly renovated, $1.4 billion Terminal 4, the Post reports.

The 50-year-old Nigerian was preparing to board an Arik Air flight to Nigeria when he went into cardiac arrest. A Port Authority police emergency operator got the call around 6:30 a.m. and was told Adekunle was “unresponsive” but breathing. A Port Authority ambulance was immediately dispatched, but the Paramedics and Fire department was unable to enter the terminal because their security card wasn't working.

Finally, Adekunle was transported from the terminal to the FDNY ambulance after another alternate entry was found and then taken to Jamaica Hospital, where he was declared dead. A Port Authority spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

A spokesperson at the airport said that the incident is under investigation. As of now, no changes have been made to the security doors or to Port Authority personnel's badges.

Computer mouse inventor, Doug Engelbart dies at 88

Doug Engelbart, the inventor of the computer mouse and developer of early incarnations of email, word processing programmes and the internet, has died at the age of 88.

He died from acute kidney failure at his California home after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease, said one of his daughters, Diana Engelbart Mangan. 

Back in the 1950s and ’60s, when mainframe computers took up entire rooms and were fed data on punch cards, Portland, Oregon-born Engelbart was envisioning a world in which people used computers to share ideas about solving problems. 

He said his work was all about “augmenting human intellect”, but it boiled down to making computers user-friendly. One of the biggest advances was the mouse, which he developed in the 1960s and patented in 1970. 

World's Oldest Man, Jiroemon Kimura Dies

Jiroemon Kimura, the oldest man in recorded history, has died. He was 116.

The government released a faxed statement today that said the resident of Kyotango, Japan, was being treated for pneumonia in the past week when he stopped responding to treatment. He died of natural causes, according to the statement.

Kimura, who celebrated his 116th birthday at the end of last month, was the last man alive known to be born in the 19th century, according to Guinness World Records. He was also designated the oldest living person.

The "oldest living" distinction now belongs to 115-year-old Misao Okawa, also of Japan, a woman who was born March 5, 1898. The Los Angeles-based Gerontology Research Group lists her as one of 21 women born before New Year's Day in 1901 who are still alive and well.

Debbie Martin, Angelina Jolie's aunt dies of breast cancer

According to her husband, Debbie Martin had the same defective BRCA1 gene that Jolie does but did not know it until after her 2004 cancer diagnosis.

One baby dies nearly every hour in South Africa because the country does not have enough skilled health-care workers.

According to a hard-hitting report released on Tuesday, 7 500 babies who are born alive die on their first day - that’s 21 babies every day or almost one an hour.

In addition, 3 000 mothers around the country die every year due to complications during pregnancy or childbirth.

These shocking statistics were revealed at the launch of Save the Children SA - the new and independent arm of the world’s largest children’s rights organisation.

The organisation also released the 2013 State of the World’s Mothers report, which ranks every country based on analyses of the health, education and economic status of mothers and wellbeing of children to determine the best and worst places in the world to be a mother.

Finland, Sweden and Norway made the top rankings while the Democratic Republic of Congo was ranked bottom of the pile at 176.

US referee dies after assault by teenage player

A recreational league soccer referee, 46, who was critically injured and in a coma after being punched by a teenage player during a game died last night, US police said.

Police have accused a 17-year-old player in a recreational soccer league of punching Mr Portillo after the man called a foul on him and issued him with a yellow card.

According to a police report, the trouble began April 27 at a youth match at Eisenhower Junior High School in Taylorville. As players jostled for position, Portillo saw the goalkeeper push an opponent with his hands.

Portillo lifted his "Yellow Card," issuing a warning to the 17-year-old boy. He then began writing the infraction in his official’s notebook.

According to the police report, Portillo probably never saw the blow coming — a powerful punch to the head.

Feeling dizzy, Portillo sat down and began vomiting blood.

"He was laying on the ground, on his left side in a fetal position," Officer Jason Huggard wrote. "Ricardo was complaining of pain in his face, back and being nauseated. ... He had spit up a small amount of blood in his saliva."

Portillo died at 9:33 p.m. at Intermountain Medical Center, according to the news release

"Formal charges will be screened early next week with the Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office," the press release said. "Since Portillo has passed away additional charges will be screened in connection with his death."

The teenager has been booked into juvenile detention on suspicion of aggravated assault.

He said an autopsy is planned.

Governor Mimiko’s aide, Seyi Adeniyi slumps and dies

Mr. Seyi Adeniyi, a Special Assistant to Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, on Tuesday slumped and was he was rushed to the State Specialist Hospital in Akure, where he was placed on life support. He eventually passed away.

Adeniyi was forty years of age.

Adeniyi, who until his death was the Special Assistant on Special Duties to Governor Mimiko, had worked as an aide to Senator Ehinlanwo before joining the government.

Popular Evangelist Prophet Obadare Dies At 86

Timothy Oluwole Obadare, the very popular blind prophet, known and respected by millions all over the world is dead.

Obadare was the General Evangelist of Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) Worldwide and founder of the World Soul Winning Evangelical Ministry (WOSEM) which has its headquarters in Akure, Ondo State. Aged 86, Obadare passed away on Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at his number 16, Adinlewa Street, Akurenresidence, close to the expansive WOSEM headquarters.
He death was confirmed today (Thursday, March 21, 2013) by his youngest son, Pastor Joseph Obadare.

The prophet’s personal driver since 1988, Pastor Gbenga Obatuyise, who spoke to The Guardian at the residence, said : ‘Baba was father to thousands of children and I am happy to be one of them. He turned my life around and through him I found a new life in Christ’.
Ondo State Governor Olusegun Mimiko has said Obadare was an example of the marching on of a saint.

Venezuela's President Hugo Chavez has died. The 58 year old socialist leader died after battling with cancer for almost two years. He hadn't made a public appearance since his return to Venezuela last month after cancer treatment in Cuba. 

The former paratroop commander and fiery populist waged continual battle for his socialist ideals and outsmarted his rivals time and again, defeating a coup attempt, winning re-election three times and using his country's vast oil wealth to his political advantage.
