Adidas revokes all endorsement with Luis Suarez

Adidas will stop using Luis Suarez as one of its ambassador and promotional star for World Cup adverts after his four-month ban from football activities for biting Italian Giorgio Chiellini.

“Adidas fully backs FIFA’s decision,” and said “We do not accept the recent behavior of Luis Suarez and shall remind him of the high standards we expect of our players.

“We have no plan to use Suarez for any other marketing activities during the 2014 FIFA World Cup.”

FIFA banned Suarez for nine internationals and from football for four months and also fined him 100,000 Swiss francs ($112,000).

In an unprecedented move Fifa has banned Uruguay’s Luis Suárez from all “football-related activities” for four months for biting Italy’s Giorgio Chiellini, ruling him out of the rest of the World Cup and the start of the domestic season. The Liverpool striker will not be able to play or train for his club or country for four months after Fifa’s disciplinary committee handed down the hefty sanction, which is sure to provoke dismay from both Uruguay and Liverpool.

FIFA charges Suarez for biting Italy's Chiellini, faces multi-match ban

Luiz Suarez has made history as the inaugural winner of the FIFA ‘Golden Tooth’ award. He has been charged by FIFA for biting Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini in the World Cup's Group D match on Tuesday.

FIFA said early Wednesday that its disciplinary committee has opened proceedings against the Uruguay forward. If the panel finds Suarez guilty of assaulting an opponent, FIFA rules call for a ban of at least two matches up to a maximum of 24 months.

Suarez, who has twice been suspended previously for biting, appeared to take a chomp at Italy's Giorgio Chiellini. 

Chiellini pled to the referee while showing his shoulder, and Suarez appeared to be holding his mouth in apparent pain. 

Suarez escaped any immediate punishment.

The crisis in the Edo State House of Assembly today (Monday) took a new dimension as the lawmakers resorted to physical combat in a bid to enforce the suspension of their colleagues.

Trouble began when the court bailiff served contempt proceedings on the four lawmakers while they sat with their other colleagues outside the Edo State House of Assembly.

Calling each other unprintable names when both factions arrived the House for sitting on Monday morning, they insisted they were going in despite the suspension and injunction from the courts.

Sudan to release woman on death row for apostasy

27 years old Meriam Ibrahim, a Sudanese woman on death row for apostasy had her sentence canceled and was ordered released by a Khartoum court on Monday, the country's official news agency reported.

The Court of Cassation canceled the death sentence against her after defense lawyers presented their case. The court ordered her release.

Ibrahim, whose father was Muslim but who was raised by her Christian mother, was convicted of apostasy for marrying a Christian. Sudan's penal code criminalizes the conversion of Muslims to other religions, a crime punishable by death. Ibrahim married a Christian man from southern Sudan in a church ceremony in 2011. As in many Muslim nations, Muslim women in Sudan are prohibited from marrying non-Muslims, though Muslim men can marry outside their faith.

Referee in USA - Portugal grants first ever World Cup water break

In the 39th minute of the USA's clash with Portugal in Manaus, midfielder Jermaine Jones limped off to get some medical attention for his tattooed knee. Referee Nestor Pitana appeared to use the break in play to call a discretionary water break — the first time this has ever happened at a World Cup.

Due to the heat and humidity at several venues in this tournament, officials are permitted to grant one short hydration break in each half.

Furthermore, a Brazilian judge has ordered mandatory water breaks every 30 minutes if the temperature reaches and exceeds 90 Fahrenheit. 

According to the FIFA website, the temperature in the Amazonian stadium for this group G clash reached 86 Fahrenheit, with 66% humidity.

Despite similar temperatures during England's clash with Italy in Manaus last weekend, no water break was given. This lack of respite clearly had its effect on players — Andrea Pirlo was reduced from his normal walking pace to a slightly slower walking pace.
