Dogs are not for Africans, says Zuma
South African President Jacob Zuma has sparked furor in South Africa after he said that keeping dogs is not for blacks but for white people.
Zuma said that owning and taking care of a dog is a part of white culture and is un-African. He said that black people who buy dogs and take them for walks are part of a new problem of black Africans trying to be white.
In a speech on Wednesday, he also commented on other racial issues, openly stating:
“Even if you apply any kind of lotion and straighten your hair you will never be white”.
Zuma’s spokesperson Mr. Mac Maharaj later issued a statement stating the president was only trying to “decolonise the African mind post-liberation” and encourage black Africans to “love who they are and uphold their own culture”.
