FAAN to expand Lagos airport access road to 10 lanes

In a move aimed at reducing the traffic jam motorists encounter on their way through the airport and in preparation for automation of toll collection, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has started work on the expansion of the lanes.

A FAAN official told BusinessDay that the ongoing work will see the road expanding from six to 10 lanes.

“I can confirm to you that FAAN is in charge of the expansion and not the concessionaire”.
Government had about four years ago, concessioned the toll to Integrated Intelligent Imaging West Africa Limited (I-CUBE W/A) for efficiency. Staffers of the concessionaire are seen on a daily basis collecting N100 toll from each motorist without official stickers.

On a monthly basis since the toll was concessioned, I-CUBE W/A remits N40 million to FAAN. Moyosola Niran-Oladunni, former managing director of I.CUBE, had attributed the delay in the expansion to inability of concerned authority to relocate some underground cables.

He had also said the expansion will cost the authorities N1 billion.
