Aggrieved Chibok Women Storm Abuja, Protest At National Assembly

Aggrieved mothers and other indigenes of Chibok, Borno State, today in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, staged a protest to demand the immediate rescue or release of the more than 200 secondary school girls abducted by suspected Boko Haram insurgents on April 14.

The protesters, most of them members of the Kibaku Development Association, Chibok, converged at Eagle Square in Nigeria’s capital. From there, they marched to the National Assembly to submit a protest letter. The women were led into the premises of the national legislature by a group of senior female police officers.

Premium Galaxy S5 with 2K display reportedly launching soon

Samsung will reportedly launch the premium version of the Galaxy S5 at some point in June, according to “industry sources” that spoke to South Korean publication Asia Today. The Galaxy S5 “Prime” model has been detailed in many reports preceding the Galaxy S5 launch and was spotted online after the regular model hit stores, even though Samsung officially denied working on such a device.

The Prime model is expected to have a 2560 x 1440 (also known as 2K or Quad HD) display, and a faster, more energy-efficient Samsung Exynos chip, at least according to recent reports.

It’s not clear in what markets this Prime Galaxy S5 version will be launched in, or how much it’ll cost, especially when compared to the regular Galaxy S5 that’s already selling very well in many countries.

Audition for Tinsel Season 7 & AfricaMagic Original Films

Aspiring actors are called to audition for various roles in the soap opera Tinsel for Season 7, as well as AfricaMagic’s first ever film feature initiative – AfricaMagic Original Films.

The auditions will take place in Lagos and Ibadan, Nigeria, and Accra, Ghana. The production team is searching for new acts – both male and female, young and old, who will like to launch their careers.

Interested people are expected to come to the audition venue with three (3) copies of an individual five-by-seven (5×7) coloured, non-photo shopped portrait photograph.

Peter Jackson changes third Hobbit film title

Director Peter Jackson has announced the news that his third instalment of The Hobbit franchise has had a new name, and rather than The Hobbit: There And Back Again, it is called, The Hobbit: The Battle Of Five Armies.

“Our journey to make The Hobbit Trilogy has been in some ways like Bilbo’s own, with hidden paths revealing their secrets to us as we’ve gone along. ‘There and Back Again’ felt like the right name for the second of a two film telling of the quest to reclaim Erebor, when Bilbo’s arrival there, and departure, were both contained within the second film. But with three movies, it suddenly felt misplaced—after all, Bilbo has already arrived “there” in the ‘Desolation of Smaug’.

“When we did the premiere trip late last year, I had a quiet conversation with the studio about the idea of revisiting the title. We decided to keep an open mind until a cut of the film was ready to look at. We reached that point last week, and after viewing the movie, we all agreed there is now one title that feels completely appropriate.

“And so: ‘The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies’ it is.”

Van Gaal agrees Manchester United deal

Netherlands coach Louis van Gaal has reached a deal to join Manchester United as manager after the World Cup, replacing sacked David Moyes, a Dutch newspaper report said on Saturday.Popular broadsheet De Telegraaf said: “The national coach late last (Friday) night reached a deal with the top British club,” without citing sources.

“The man who’s the absolute number one to replace axed coach David Moyes will immediately take up the job when the Dutch Eleven is knocked out of the World Cup in Brazil,” the paper added.

Van Gaal, 62, who has been on holiday at his villa in Portugal’s Algarve “has been in talks with Ed Woodward, lawyer for club owners the Glazer brothers for a multi-year, multi-million contract,” it said.

Included in the deal would be a 100 million euros ($138 million) in transfer fees to beef up United’s flagging fortunes.Van Gaal, whose stylish way of football and no-nonsense attitude has earned him the nickname the “Iron Tulip”, has emerged as the front-runner to take over the hot seat at Old Trafford after Moyes’ unceremonious end-of-season release.

The Dutchman brings with him a long list of successes including several Dutch titles with top club Ajax and unfashionable AZ Alkmaar, a Bundesliga crown with Bayern Munich and Spanish championship with Barcelona.

Another mad ritualist arrested in Benin

A suspected ritual killer who specialises in selling human parts has been arrested by security operatives in Benin City, the Edo State capital, southern Nigeria.

The suspected ritualist was arrested at the Upper Sokponba road area of Benin with a gun, different human parts and N4 million cash. It was reliably gathered that the man had lived in a make-shift apartment for close to two years, pretending to be a madman.

Eyewitness account states that the suspected ritual killer was in the habit of behaving funny especially when it is getting dark. “This man sometimes behaves funny. In the afternoon, you will see him bathing naked, behaving like a real madman.

“What really disturbed us are the dead bodies found around almost the same area. The most serious issues is that if a dead body is that of a woman, the head, the breasts and the private part would have been removed. Same also goes for a male dead body.

He suggested that someone might have seen the suspect dumping the headless body on the express road and informed the security operatives.

Robbers raid eight streets in Mushin, destroy 30 cars

According to The Punch

There were fears and tension in the Mushin area of Lagos State on Monday morning after about 60 robbers operated on no fewer than eight streets and destroyed about 30 vehicles.

Some residents told our correspondent that the robbers also raped some young ladies and operated unchallenged for about seven hours.

The hoodlums, who reportedly belonged to two cult groups – Akala boys and Toheeb’s gang – ravaged New Balogun, Euba, Ayonuga, Tiamiyu, Haruna, Ereko, Oyedele streets and Coker Lane.

Vice-principal of South Korea school in ferry disaster commits suicide

The vice-principal of the high school whose pupils died when a South Koren ferry capsized has committed suicide by hanging himself outside a large gym where families of the victims were staying.


Police said that Kang Min-gyu, 52, went missing on Thursday and appeared to have hanged himself from a tree outside the gym.

Police said Kang did not leave a suicide note and that they had started looking for him after he was reported missing by a fellow teacher. He was rescued from the ferry after it capsized.

Twenty-eight people had been officially declared dead before Kang’s suicide. One hundred and seventy-four were rescued. Most of the missing are students from the Danwon High School on the outskirts of Seoul, who were on a holiday trip.

Zimbabwe more corrupt than Nigeria - Former US Ambassador to Nigeria

Ambassador John Campbell, a great critic of Nigeria’s government has waded into the diplomatic spat between Nigeria and Zimbabwe, over President Robert Mugabe’s denigration of Nigeria as a corrupt country. Campbell, a blogger on the website of US Council on Foreign Relations, said contrary to the impression Mugabe created, Zimbabwe is worse than Nigeria as a corrupt nation.

Campbell relied on the Corruption Perception Index published by Transparency International to reach his conclusion. In the last edition, Mugabe’s Zimbabwe was rated 157, while Nigeria was rated 133.

A pregnant journalist is recovering in hospital today after a pro-Kremlin political leader in Russia told two male aides to 'violently rape' her at a press conference.

Nationalist Vladimir Zhironovsky launched his extraordinary tirade after reporter Stella Dubovitskaya asked him an innocuous question about sanctions against Ukraine. 
The founder of the far right Liberal Democratic Party began shouting wildly, before suddenly manhandling two young male aides towards the pregnant mother-of-one.
He then shouted to them: 'When I say, you run to her and violently rape her.'

He said that there was a wrong impression that he claimed not to be a Nigerian. “During the period of publicising “Twelve Years a Slave” I was asked where i was originally from. “I suppose i was trying to give an honest answer about where I was born, and so, I said London, which is where i was born. “And to me, it was a surprising reaction that people then concluded that i didn’t identify as Nigerian. “Of course, I am Nigerian-British, But if they ask me where I was born, I can’t say Enugu, because I wasn’t born in Enugu, but, it doesn’t mean that I don’t identify as Nigerian. “I am proud of being Nigerian that I am extraordinarily happy to be here to make this film”.

VIDEO: Drunken Mobile Policeman Caught Assaulting Two Women

A drunken police officer with the Mobile Police, or Mopol, Unit #20, in Lagos, who was later identified as Tafa Mohammed, was caught breaking the law. A citizen video photographer captured officer Mohammed brutalizing two women with a hidden camera, filming this disturbing footage at a safe distance. 

This illegal action by the officer erupted when a street food vendor would not issue him fish to finish up his beer. The food vendor was said to have declined to sell fish alone, except to those buying food with it, a vendor policy that angered the policeman. Mohammed, a mobile policeman, was reeking of alcohol, say eyewitnesses to this event. Mohammed took on a female customer who was buying food from the same vendor at the time he got there, and threw her into a nasty pond of putrid muddy water.

This assault on the two women took place at Lewis Street, Lafiaji, Obalende on the Lagos Island. Mohammed is seen drawing a rifle and pointing it at one of the women, an act of 'pistol whipping,' and he was backed-up with the presence of a second MOPOL officer. One round of ammunition was fired. 

The torture reportedly caused internal injuries for the victim. A crowd of bystanders, and pedestrians can be heard shouting their displeasure at both officers.

I watched with dismay as President Goodluck Jonathan made a caricature of himself and brought the revered office of the President and Commander In Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria, to an all time low yesterday in Kano during a PDP Jamboree he personally attended 24 hours after the Abuja bomb explosion.

When it was time to deliver his 15 minutes speech, President Jonathan was pathetic. He left no one in doubt that he was a complete waste of space. He did not address cogent national issues and how he has made a difference in addressing the challenges facing the nation.

NDLEA Arrests Pakistani Student With N228m Worth Of Heroin In Lagos

A Pakistani student, Iftikiha Arslan, who is believed to be working for a Pakistani drug cartel, has been arrested at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for trafficking 25.4 kilogrammes of heroin.

Head of Public Affairs of NDLEA, Mr. Mitchell Ofoyeju, said the drug was discovered in the suspect’s luggage during inward screening of passengers on board Qatar airline flight. It was believed that Arslan left Lahore, Pakistan with the drugs to Abu Dhabi then to Doha from where he connected to Lagos. The estimated street value of the seized drug was said to be N228m.

'Fast 7' Recruits Paul Walker's Brothers to Finish Late Actor's Scenes

"Fast & Furious 7" has found a way to go on shooting without Paul Walker.

The "Fast 7" filmmakers announced yesterday on Facebook that Paul's two younger siblings, Cody and Caleb, are on the film set to help finish some of the late actor's action scenes. Production was halted when Walker died in a fiery car crash last Nov. — just weeks after he attended Caleb's wedding as his best man (see above photo).

Cody Walker, in his mid-twenties and the youngest of the three Walker brothers, is a trained paramedic and now works with is late brother's Reach Out Worldwide charity. Caleb Walker is in his late thirties.

Seven undergraduates arrested in Lekki raid by EFCC

Press release from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC. 

A surprise dawn raid on two houses in the Lekki area of Lagos on April 6, yielded the arrest of seven suspects, all undergraduates studying various courses in some of the nation’s tertiary institutions.

The undergraduates, who are within the age-range of 21 and 29 years, include Elete Fred Debi, a 500-level student of Physics/Production Technology of the University of Port-Harcourt, Rivers State. Others are: Ese Iriruaga, 300-level student of Geology,  Delta State University, Abraka, Delta State; Couson Jimmy, 300-level student of Computer Science, Benson Idahosa, University, Benin-City, Edo State; Anthony Onos, 200-level student of Political Science, Lagos State University, Ojo, Lagos State; Omene Stephen, 200l student of Computer Science, University of Port-Harcourt, Rivers State; Kome Emmanuel, 200l student of Petroleum Engineering, University of Port-Harcourt and Shola Muyiwa of the Petroleum Training Institute, Effurun, Delta State.

BREAKING NEWS! Explosion rocks popular park at Nyanya, Abuja.

A bomb is said to have exploded in a densely populated area in Nyanyan, Abuja. According to an eye witness, an improvised explosive device IED in a luxury Bus belonging to FCT exploded just before 7AM killing over 20 people and injuring several other who were around the popular park.

The eyewitness further said that  most of the other vehicles around the premises was set ablaze as a result of the explosion. Men of the federal fire service are battling to contain the situation.

Chile Forest Fire Leaves at Least 15 Dead, 1,000 Homes Destroyed

A deadly forest fire in the port city of Valparaiso, Chile, has killed at least 11 people, and destroyed 2,000 homes with strong winds fanning the flames, Chilean President Michelle Bachelet said on Sunday.  

A state of emergency has been declared by the country’s president in an effort to help the army battle the fires.

At least 12 people have been killed in the fire that swept more than 2.5 million square meters (660 acres). Valparaiso Police Chief Julio Pineda who spoke to 24 Horas television said earlier that 16 people had been killed, but it turned out that one family was counted twice.

Flames are blazing in the urban area that is only 80 kilometers from the country’s capital, Santiago, while strong winds are drives the flames on to the central port cities of Valparaiso and Viña del Mar, situated on the Pacific Coast.

"It is a terrible tragedy, without doubt the worst fire in the history of Valparaiso," President Michelle Bachelet stated upon arrival in the city, according to AFP.

"This is the worst disaster I've seen in Valparaiso," La Prensa reported Ricardo Bravo, the local mayor, as saying.
