Game Over for Sony Play Station 2

Sony has ceased production of its PlayStation 2 games console worldwide, it has revealed.

The electronics giant has confirmed to The Guardian newspaper that its long-serving machine has finally been put out to pasture - 12 years after it was launched back in 2000.

The console - which saw the release of ground-breaking titles such as Grand Theft Auto III and Gran Turismo 4 - sold more than 150 million units in its lifetime.

Sony is currently selling the PS3, but is expected to release the successor to that console next year.
