Egypt's General Abdel Fattah El-Sisi cruised to a landslide victory in an election some claim was little more than political theatre. Low voter turnout could threaten his claims of public popularity and mandate to govern.

Hospital fire mishap claims 21 lives, injures dozen

A fire swept through a hospital in South Korea early Wednesday, killing 21 people and leaving six others in a critical condition.

Most of the patients who died at the hospital in Janseong county, south of the capital Seoul, were in their seventies and eighties, Yonhap news agency said, citing police and fire officials.

Thirty bedridden patients were trapped by "choking fumes" on the second floor of an annex building, while 10 patients on the first floor managed to escape, the report said.

One nurse was on duty at the time and was among the dead.

The fire was extinguished in around 30 minutes, Yonhap cited fire official Kim Kyong-Man as saying, adding that officials said the toxic fumes were to blame for the heavy death toll.

Iran summons Mark Zuckerberg, blocks Instagram and WhatsApp

Iran has ordered Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg to appear in court to answer complaints by individuals who say Facebook-owned applications Instagram and WhatsApp violate their privacy.

The order which was deliver by judge in southern Iran also ordered the two apps blocked. It is highly unlikely that Zuckerberg would appear in an Iranian court, since there is no extradition treaty between Iran and the United States. Some Iranian courts have in recent years issued similar rulings that could not be carried out.

Facebook is already officially banned in the country, along with other social websites like Twitter and YouTube, as well as their mobile apps. However, some senior leaders like Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif are active on Twitter, and many Iranians use proxy servers to access banned websites and applications.

The administration of moderate President Hassan Rouhani is opposed to blocking such websites before authorities create local alternatives. Social media has offered a new way for him and his administration to reach out to the West as it negotiates with world powers over the country’s contested nuclear program.

Malavath Purna was joined by Sadanapalli Anand, a 17-year-old student, in climbing Everest from the Tibetan side, considered a more difficult route than the more popular Nepal side.

Frank Lampard, Ashley Cole and Samuel Eto'o look set to leave Chelsea this summer following the expiry of their contracts. The club have yet to comment, but the trio are included on the list of released players submitted to the Premier League.Although they could yet be retained, the list indicates that offers to extend their deals have not been agreed.

Cole, 33, had recently said on Twitter that he expected to leave Stamford Bridge following a season in which he lost his place in the team to Cesar Azpilicueta.
Eto'o, too, had appeared certain to move on after just one year in west London, with the Cameroon international criticising coach Jose Mourinho following remarks he made earlier in the campaign about his age.

However, Lampard, 35, was thought likely to sign an extension along with club captain John Terry, who finally committed to a new deal earlier this month.

Also departing the club are back-up goalkeepers Mark Schwarzer, who deputised for Petr Cech at the end of the season, and Hilario, who had been with the Blues since 2006.
Milan Lalkovic and Sam Hutchinson are among the others to exit. Hutchinson had come through the youth ranks at the club before being forced into retirement in 2010 only to re-sign in 2011 after an improvement in his knee injury.

Meanwhile, striker Demba Ba has revealed that Mourinho convinced him to stay at Chelsea.

Rocket launcher factory found in Kano – Defence Headquarters

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ), on Friday in Abuja, said rocket launcher production facility was uncovered at Dorayi District in Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano.

This information was contained in a statement issued and signed by Major-General Chris Olukolade, Director of Defence Information. The statement said that cordon and search exercise led to the discovery of the facility.

It explained that the discovery followed the arrest of a prominent member of the terrorist group.
“Locally made anti-aircraft gun and mortar accessories and rocket propelled grenade tubes and launcher along with accessories were recovered.

“Also seized were three AK47 rifles and hundreds of rounds of assorted ammunitions as well as drilling machines and other fabricating equipment.

The statement reminded the public to report suspicious persons to security agencies in their localities to prevent unwholesome act by terrorists.

President Obama Takes a Surprise Walk

The President was heading over to the nearby Department of the Interior and decided to break with tradition and take a Springtime walk. On the way, he got a chance to meet with all sorts of folks, who weren't expecting to meet the President of the United States of America.

Obama chatted with tourists, shopkeepers and children during his walk to and from the Interior Department.

As one woman out shook his hand, she asked, "Are you real?". The President said he was.  Another asked him if it was okay to get a picture and as Obama agreed, she said, "Omigosh! Someone's gonna think you're wax."

Young Iranians Arrested For Dancing In 'Happy' Pharrell Video

About a month ago, 6 Iranian boys and girls (in this video) danced to the famous song by Pharrell Williams called "Happy" on the rooftops of Tehran and uploaded their video on the YouTube. It was widely distributed in the social media. The police decided to track them down and arrest them and make them repent in front of the camera. 

It then showed this capture on the national TV channels as a bunch of deceived Iranian youth who regretted their deed. In the past 35 years, Islamic Republic has managed to steal freedom and happiness from the Iranian youth and replace it with a culture full of mourning and sorrow. We, too, are human. We, too, have the right to be happy and live happily and learn how to be happy.

Terror attacks kill 31 in China's tense Xinjiang region

Thirty-one people were killed and more than 90 injured in an attack Thursday on a busy street market in the capital of China's volatile north western region of Xinjiang, the local government said, the bloodiest in a series of violent incidents blamed on radical separatist Muslims.

The Xinjiang regional government said in a statement that the early morning attack in the city of Urumqi was "a serious violent terrorist incident of a particularly vile nature."

The assailants crashed through metal barriers in a pair of SUVs at 7:50 a.m. and plowed through crowds of shoppers while setting off explosives, the statement said.

The vehicles then crashed head-on and one of them exploded, the official Xinhua News Agency reported. It quoted an eyewitness as saying there were up to a dozen blasts in all.

T-Kross Gets Signed By New York City's finest Label!!!!!

T-Kross, a United States based Nigerian singer and music producer has several more to be grateful for. The 'Mamma' coroner,in the recent weeks, signed a three year management deal with New York City's finest- Rudeboyz Music Group. 

The day, Mothers' Day precisely, was commemorated with performances from the artiste and some industry friends.

The world's oldest living person and oldest woman, Misao Okawa of Osaka, Japan is 116 years old; she was born on March 5, 1898. The longest a person has been known to live, at least an age that could be authenticated by Guinness World Records, is 122 years and 164 days; that person, Louise Calment of France, was born on Feb. 21, 1875, and died in a nursing home in Arles, France, on Aug. 4, 1997.

Two explosions have rocked the central area of Jos, Plateau State

The explosions, believed to have been caused by an improvised Explosive Device (IED), occurred around the busy Jos Main Market, between railway terminus and the temporary site of the Jos University Teaching Hospital.

The first blast went off at about 3:10pm on Tuesday while the second erupted about 10 metres away 15 minutes later.

Pandemonium is also reported to have ensued with cars colliding as their drivers scampered for safety.

The casualty figure is yet to be confirmed, but scores of people are reported to have died.

Youtube set to acquire the largest on-line game streaming video platform, Twitch

Two online video titans are about to team-up. The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Google's YouTube is in negotiations to buy video game streaming service Twitch. The deal has been reached, with a price of $1 billion. The WSJ, though, contends talks are still in an early stage.

Should the deal go through, it would be a massive validation for Twitch, which has become the Internet's go-to spot to watch and broadcast live gameplay sessions in a mere three years.

Assuming that $1 billion price tag is correct, this would be the fifth largest acquisition in Google's history -- right below the company's 2006 purchase of YouTube for $1.65 billion -- underscoring the site's importance to Google.

Photos: Police averted bomb blast incident in Kano this morning

The Nigeria police released these photos of car rigged with explosives that targeted Kano city. Nigeria police said on Monday that they thwarted a fresh attempt to detonate a car bomb in Kano, a day after a bombing killed four people in an area of the city attacked repeatedly by Boko Haram. This car would have caused a second bomb attack in Kano following a first that killed at least 13 people at a beer joint last night in Sabon Gari area of Kano.

The vehicle was packed with material for an improvised explosive device but was recovered and made safe before it could be detonated.

The pop star surprised the audience when he brought up the controversial Los Angeles Clippers owner during his acceptance speech.

“I want to thank everybody on Earth, except for Donald Sterling,” Timberlake said.

The L.A. Clippers owner was banned from the NBA last month after racially inflammatory comments he made were leaked to the public.

The “Take Back The Night” singer also zinged his fellow nominees during his speech.

Nigeria Army Fires Commander Of Battalion That Mutinied

The Nigerian Army has removed an army commander whose unit rebelled yesterday in Maiduguri. Major General Ahmadu Mohammed was shot at by angry soldiers of the 7th Division yesterday in Maiduguri’s Maimalari Barracks.

The soldiers became angry when they saw the bodies of 12 of their colleagues being brought back from Chibok. Boko Haram fighters had killed the soldiers after the militants ambushed a convoy of soldiers returning from duties in Chibok.

A spokesman of the Nigerian Army, Major General Chris Olukolade, announced the removal of the General Officer commanding the 7th Division today.

Chelsea U-21 team defeats Man U to win Junior Premier league.

Chelsea's Under-21s came from behind to secure victory at Old Trafford and claim the league crown. Tom Lawrence put the hosts ahead after 12 minutes with an expert finish beyond Jamal Blackman, before Charly Musonda levelled the scores 10 minutes later with a low drive from the edge of the box.

The Blues had the better opportunities throughout the second period as Lewis Baker fired over and Ruben Loftus-Cheek brought a good low save from Ben Amos in the Man United goal, before Baker curled a brilliant effort into the far corner in the 79th minute to secure the win.
